About Ukraine
Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe, bordering several countries such as Russia, Poland, Romania, etc. The southern part of Ukraine is bordered by the Black and Azov Seas.
It declared its independence from Russia in 1991, no longer being called "Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic." As of 1996, its official name became Constitution of Ukraine.
The current President of Ukraine is President Viktor Yuschenko, sworn into office on January 23, 2005. Similar to the United States, their powers of government are separated into three branches, whose names you will recognize: the legislative, executive and judicial. The Cabinet of Ministers is resposible to the President and is the "highest executive body." Yuliya Tymoshenko is the current Prime Minister, appointed on February 4, 2005. Ukraine's national governmental structure is described in their Constitution.
The Ukrainian flag, showing horizontal stripes of blue and yellow represent the blue skies and golden wheat fields. These colors are the same for the Ukrainain trident and coat of arms.
